The sentences in this exercise feature characters and situations from the Spanish novel Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Published in two volumes in 1605 and 1615, this novel is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age. It is a satire and a comedy that examines and pokes fun at the upper classes, while remaining sympathetic to Don Quixote, who is a pathetic but ultimately compassionate character. The Broadway play, Man of La Mancha, is based on this novel.
