Week 4 Instructions

1. Language Spotlight--Do the exercise located in the Week 4 Module. But first, read the Little, Brown Brief, Section 7 on "Paragraphs," and Sections 53d and 53e on integrating sources. 

 2. Assignment #3: Analytical Writing: Read The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect (MPI), Chapters 2 and 3>

Then follow the ANALYTICAL WRITING INSTRUCTIONS (e.g. third person, direct quotes, page number citations) carefully to write one long paragraph addressing the following elements of Chapters 2 and 3---

Remember! These paragraphs that you are writing about the novel will turn in the first draft of Essay #2.

A) Identify and explain how Chapter 2 meets the expectations of a sci-fi novel for Science Fiction Genre Element #1: Science fiction is a genre of fiction in which the stories often tell about science and technology of the future.

AND 

Identify and explain how Chapter 3 meets the expectations of a sci-fi novel for Science Fiction Genre Element #4: The plot creates situations different from those of both the present day and the known past—the characters will experience something new and unique.

 B)  Answer these prompts for Chapters 2 and 3—Explain how Prime Intellect came into being, and what its powers are. What is the significance of this? AND Who is Anne-Marie and why is Caroline upset with her? What is the significance of this?

3. Discussion #5: Discuss Asimov's 3 Rules of Robotics and how they apply to The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect so far. See Discussion #5 in the Week 4 Module for further information. 

4. Essay #2: The Science Fiction Genre-- Instructions: Please read the instructions for Essay #2, which you will find in the Week 4 Module. NOTHING IS DUE FOR ESSAY #2 IN WEEK 4. Just read the instructions. Thanks! Also, read about primary versus secondary sources, the rubric for Essay #2, and the example of Essay #2, which are located in the Week 4 Module.
